TAKAYAMA:

Artisans, Artists and Portraits of the People

a photography workshop with Michael Clark

Dates: september 9 - 18, 2027

OVERVIEW

Nobechi Creative returns to one of our favorite small Japanese towns, in our first dedicated workshop to the people and landscape of Takayama since our highly successful workshop with Greg Gorman back in 2018. This workshop is designed expressly for those who do not want to move around from city to city during their Japan trip.

Takayama is a historic, mountain town nestled in the heart of Central Japan. While it is popular with tourists, the hallmark of our visits to Takayama is our special relationship with its artisans, craftspeople, artists and locals. Using the backdrop of the beautiful streets, teahouses, traditional Japanese homes and ateliers, with Michael Clark teaching the use of lights, strobes, and more, we will make beautiful environmental portraits of tea masters, martial artists (including swordsmen), ceramicists, and more.

With nearly everything being within walking distance, you can go to the baths for a soak, head to the classic Showa Era coffee shop for an old school French drip, take in the magnificent forest shrines or visit a karaoke bar, all while participating in the portrait sessions as well.

As a finale to the workshop, we will make prints of your work and create an exhibition in the town.

REGISTRATION FOR THIS WORKSHOP WILL OPEN SOON. TO BE NOTIFIED, PLEASE FILL OUT THE FORM BELOW.
